A new region became known-the leader in HIV mortality

According to the regional statistics services in Russia has changed the three "regions-leaders" in HIV mortality. Now it is: Kemerovo, Irkutsk and Sverdlovsk regions.

This is reported by RBC, whose journalists analyzed the regional reporting, indicating separately that officially neither Rosstat nor the Ministry of health announced by the Agency data has not yet commented.

Judging by the figures cited by the publication, the leader in HIV mortality in 2018, among the Russian regions, was the Kemerovo region, where in just 12 months of last year, 1,750 people died of AIDS.The death rate from HIV in this case amounted to 65.1 per 100 thousand inhabitants, which, as noted by RBC more of all alcohol poisoning, suicide, murder, drowning occurred in the Kuzbass. And if you compare this parameter with the corresponding data of who, it turns out that it is only twice lower than the mortality rate in countries with the highest mortality from the virus in the world, for example: Zimbabwe (133 per 100 thousand) and South Africa (190 per 100 thousand).

The Agency provides comparable data for the Irkutsk and Sverdlovsk regions (42.4 and 38.1 cases per 100 thousand, respectively).Among the reasons for these statistics, RBC called the unfavorable situation with injection consumption in these regions in the 90s, because they passed through drug trafficking.

As reported by the Federal scientific and methodological center for AIDS prevention and control of the Central research Institute of epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor IN October, for the first 10 months of 2018 in the Russian Federation 28 958 patients with HIV died of all causes, which is 17.2% more than in the same period of 2017.

Moreover, according to the research Institute, the main cause of death among HIV-infected remains tuberculosis, as a concomitant disease. Then among the most disadvantaged regions of the country were named all the same: Kemerovo, Sverdlovsk and Irkutsk regions, as well as Novosibirsk, Chelyabinsk, Tomsk region, Perm, Krasnoyarsk region and Khanty-Mansi Autonomous district.

In General, in 2017, according to Rosstat, HIV infection caused more than half of all deaths from infectious diseases (57.2%). The average age of those who died with HIV was 38 years.
