The audience will be presented a program of works by Sergei Rachmaninov, which will include "Three Russian songs" for choir and orchestra, cantata "Spring" for baritone, choir and orchestra and a poem for soloists, choir and orchestra "Bells". Soprano Anastasia Moskvina, tenor Georgy Sturua and baritone Boris Pinkhasovich will take part in the evening.
Sergei Rachmaninov is one of the key figures of Russian classical music, the heir and successor of the traditions of the St. Petersburg school of composition. All the compositions included in the concert belong to both the Russian and American period of the composer's work, but have a pronounced national character in their emotional basis. Even though the Bells were written to poems by Edgar Allan PoE, in Rachmaninoff's symphonic poem they "found Russian flesh and blood."
