Processor "Elbrus-8S". Is everything so rosy?

The project to create a Russian universal 64-bit eight-core microprocessor has been completed.

The work was carried out by MCST for almost 5 years, 621 million rubles were spent on development work. "Processor-9" designed by technology 28 nm (32 nm Intel), running at 1.5 GHz, has a peak performance of 576 GFlops single-precision and 288 GFlops double precision. In comparison with foreign products, the characteristics of "Elbrus-8SV" are comparable with Intel Itanium 9760, Intel Xeon E5-2609 v3 and Intel Xeon E7-4850 v4.

The project "Processor 9" with the architecture "Elbrus" was completed in 2018, the processor is fully developed, successfully tested and adopted by the Commission. There are no comments on the results of the Commission's work. The documentation is ready for mass production.

According to the results of successful tests of new items at the output of the state customer was received design and technical documentation of the chip and design documentation with the letter "O1" (with adjustments on the basis of acceptance tests of the prototype or batch). Character O1 indicates the product is ready for serial production. The Ministry of industry and trade believe that on the basis of Russian ”Processor-9”, you can create a personal computers, high performance workstations, servers for different purposes with a capacity up to 2 teraFLOPS, in different data centers and supercomputers petaflop performance.

What will be the price of these processors? Where will they be mass-produced?     Will the processor from the MCC somehow compete with such giants of the world market of processors?  For example, such as Intel and AMD, the cheapness of which is partially based on seriality?   It is possible that Elbrus processors will not have the vulnerabilities inherent in Intel processors, the so-called zero-day vulnerability.   About the commercial possibilities of the processor from the MCST to be assessed. The very appearance of a more or less acceptable alternative on the market can lead to lower prices for processors in General (in theory), in practice everything will depend on marketing policy.
