Lokomotiv Moscow beat German Bayer (Leverkusen) 2-1 away in the first round of the Champions League group stage.
The meeting was held at the "Buy-Arena" in the presence of 26,592 spectators. Midfielders Grzegorz Krychowiak (16th minute) and Dmitry Barinov (37) scored goals for Lokomotiv. An own goal, the ball sent the defender of the Russian club Benedikt Howedes (25). Krychowiak scored his fifth goal in 11 games in all competitions this season. "Lokomotiv" met with "Bayer" in Europe. The railwaymen had previously played eight times against German teams, winning once and losing seven times. Bayer played their 12th match against Russian teams (four wins, four losses, four draws).
The previous away win in European competitions was won by Lokomotiv on 15 February 2018, beating French nice in the 1/16 Europa League final with a score of 3: 2.
In the Champions League, Lokomotiv won the first group stage match of the 2002/03 season against Turkish Galatasaray (2:1). In another group D match, Spanish Atletico drew at home against Italian Juventus (2-2). In the second round on October 1, Lokomotiv will host Atletico, Juventus will play Bayer at home.
