Raúl Castro tritt als Chef der Kommunistischen Partei Kubas zurück

The first Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Raul Castro, resigns from his post.

On April 16, the official newspaper of the Cuban Communist Party Granma writes about this. Castro announced his resignation at the eighth Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba, which is currently taking place in Havana. In his speech, the 89-year-old Raul Castro said that he "hands over the leadership of the country to a group of trained leaders, hardened by decades of experience... committed to the ethics of the Revolution, identified with the history and culture of the nation."

Earlier, in 2018, Castro left the posts of head of the State Council of Cuba and head of the Council of Ministers, retaining only the post of leader of the Communist Party.

It is assumed that the current President of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canel, will succeed Raul Castro in this post.
