Ports in the Caspian sea are increasing cargo turnover

Cargo turnover of the Caspian basin in March 2020: grain transshipment increased almost 3 times.
According to the data of the analytical online service SeaNews PORTSTAT, in March 2020, the cargo turnover of the ports of the Caspian basin increased by 17.7% compared to March 2019. Positive dynamics are observed in imports (+36.4%) and exports (+44.1%). Cabotage and transit remained at the same level as last year. In March 2020, the share of the Caspian basin in the total cargo turnover of all Russian seaports corresponded to 1%. Oil accounted for almost half of the cargo turnover in the ports of the Caspian basin – 48%. The second largest cargo is grain (33.3%). The share of food filling in March this year was 5.5%. At the same time, the highest dynamics was in the grain segment, whose transshipment increased by 2.8 times. Cargo in containers was handled by 48.3% more than in March last year, the turnover of other General cargo increased by 25.9%. The decrease in volumes occurred in the transshipment of forest cargo (-64.3%), as well as food filling (-28.4%). In March of this year, the share of the port of Makhachkala in the total cargo turnover of the Caspian basin was 63.9%, Astrakhan handled 28.2%, and Olya accounted for 7.9%.
