"Akademik Fedorov" went on an Antarctic voyage

On January 20, the scientific expedition vessel (NES) "Akademik Fedorov" of the AANII Roshydromet left for the Antarctic voyage from the port of St. Petersburg. According to the press service of Roshydromet, the ship's voyage will last 134 days.

For the timely release of the vessel, the leadership of the AANII and the Russian Antarctic Expedition fulfilled all the requirements of Rospotrebnadzor for the non-proliferation of a new coronavirus infection. Due to the pandemic, the number of seasonal staff was reduced.

The participants of the 66th seasonal and wintering expedition, a total of 64 people, are going to Antarctica. At the same time, the ship's crew consists of 65 people, and there is also a helicopter squad of 9 people on board.Akademik Fedorov will deliver expedition cargo to the southern continent, including building materials, food, diesel fuel, aviation kerosene, technical oils and gases, as well as other cargo to support the life of Antarctic stations.

Currently, the NES "Akademik Treshnikov"is located off the coast of Antarctica. The ship completes cargo operations at Mirny station.

In order to continue complex marine geological and geophysical research in the Southern Ocean, the 66th RAE also plans to conduct a voyage of the research vessel of JSC "Rosgeologiya" "Academician Alexander Karpinsky".
